NanoOpto Announces Addition of Dr. Philip Anthony to Board of DirectorsIndustry expert
adds depth to company’s leadership teamSomerset,
New Jersey. November 11, 2002. NanoOpto Corp.,
which is applying proprietary nano-optics and nano-manufacturing
technology to design and make components for optical systems and
networks, announced today planned changes to its Board of Directors.
Dr. Philip Anthony, an Executive in Residence at Storm Ventures,
has joined the Board replacing Gary Shaffer of Morgenthaler Ventures.
               The addition
of Dr. Anthony is a planned progression to bring independent industry
leaders onto the NanoOpto Board. This announcement
is in alignment with the progress NanoOpto has
made over the past year in closing A-round financing, completing
construction of its state of the art nano-fabrication manufacturing
facility, and shipping initial products to more than two dozen customers.
               Dr. Anthony
joined Storm Ventures in September 2002 as an Executive in Residence.
Prior to joining Storm Ventures, he was the President of the Amplification
Products Group of JDS Uniphase and was responsible for its optical
amplifier, passive optical component, and integrated module businesses.
Dr. Anthony joined JDS Uniphase in June 2000 when it acquired E-TEK
Dynamics, where he was the VP of Engineering. Before E-TEK, Dr.
Anthony was the Director of the Passive Devices and Integrated Modules
Organization, Optoelectronics Business Unit, Lucent Technologies.
He is a Fellow of the IEEE, has served in various capacities on
its Board of Governors since 1994, and was President of the IEEE
Lasers and Electro-Optics Society in 2001. Dr. Anthony has a Ph.D.
in Physics from the University of Illinois, and a B.S. in Physics
from the University of Dayton. “Dr.
Anthony brings extensive industry experience to NanoOpto’s
Board of Directors. We are extremely pleased to have someone of
his caliber and background supporting our company as we focus on
expanding our product and application portfolio, and customer base,”
said Barry Weinbaum, President and CEO of NanoOpto.
“We are deeply appreciative of the contributions that Gary
Shaffer has made in helping to launch NanoOpto
and in supporting the company’s progress. We look forward
to his continued support.” The NanoOpto
Board now consists of Dr. Ed Zschau, Founder and Chairman; Barry
Weinbaum, CEO and President of NanoOpto; Howard
              Lee, Founder and Executive Vice President of NanoOpto;
              Dr. Stephen Chou, Founder; Glenn Falcao of Bessemer Venture Partners;
Dr. Greg Blonder of Morgenthaler Ventures; and Dr. Philip Anthony
              of Storm Ventures. About

networks. The company’s subwavelength scale nano-optic design capability
combined with nano-scale manufacturing technologies delivers optical
components that allow more rapid prototyping, higher performance,
and lower overall system cost. Both independently and with industry
partners, NanoOpto uses its rapid design and high
